2030 Agenda: SDG 13 - Climate Action
The National Pedagogical University of Uzbekistan Named after Nizami systematically integrates climate change issues into its educational and scientific activities, treating the climate agenda as an integral part of preparing modern specialists in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 - Climate Action. The educational process widely covers ecological safety, sustainable development, natural resource conservation, and climate change adaptation, with particular attention to developing students' environmental thinking, analytical skills, and personal sense of responsibility for the natural environment. This focus carries special significance in pedagogical education: future teachers who internalize the principles of climate responsibility will pass these values on to their own pupils, creating a multiplying effect across society. The University pursues this mission through curriculum integration, academic conferences, international competitions, practical greening initiatives, and engagement in global climate diplomacy.

Mission
To integrate climate change knowledge, environmental thinking, and climate responsible behaviour into the University's educational, research, and community engagement activities, preparing future educators to lead climate action in schools and communities across the country.
Vision
To be recognized as a leading academic institution in Uzbekistan for climate education and climate-responsible practice, bridging scientific knowledge, public policy, and international cooperation on climate change.
Priorities
Integrate climate change and ecological safety topics into curricula for future educators.
Develop students' environmental thinking and sense of personal responsibility for climate action.
Organize conferences, seminars, and roundtables on climate issues with legislative and governmental partners.
Translate climate education into practical action through tree-planting and greening campaigns.
Strengthen international academic cooperation on climate and ecological education.
Support youth-led climate innovation and green-technology initiatives.

Areas of Activity
- Climate Change in the Educational Process: The University aims to ensure that every graduate possesses a deep understanding of the causes, consequences, and global nature of climate change, as well as its relationship with the socio-economic development of society. Environmental thinking, analytical skills for addressing global challenges, and personal responsibility for the natural environment are cultivated throughout the educational process, with particular emphasis on preparing future teachers to pass climate-responsible values on to their own pupils.
- Academic Conferences and Policy Partnerships: The University regularly organizes scientific and practical conferences, seminars, and roundtable discussions on climate change. The conference “Shaping Ecological Knowledge and Culture among Youth” held within the framework of the International Day of Environmental Knowledge, was organized jointly with the Ecological Party faction of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, underscoring the University's role as a meeting point between legislative, governmental, and academic actors.
- International Climate Competitions and Initiatives Student awareness of climate issues is enhanced through participation in international initiatives. The competition “Ozone Layer and Me” organized with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), expands participants' knowledge of atmospheric protection and global climate processes.
- International Climate Diplomacy and Global Summits: In November 2024, marking the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” declared in Azerbaijan and coinciding with the COP29 climate summit in Baku, the University partnered with the Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Uzbekistan to hold a tree-planting campaign on campus, attended by university staff, students, and members of the Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Friendship Society. The University's First Vice-Rector, who had followed the COP29 proceedings in Baku, briefed participants on the summit's discussions, and the campaign featured a photo exhibition illustrating the impact of climate change on the natural environment.
